Florida Athletes Update - IAAF World Youth Championships 2015

Day 3 of the competition saw Creekside's Jordan Fields take to the track for the start of the Girls Heptathlon in excellent form as she won her heat of the 100m Hurdles in a personal best 14.07 scoring 968 points with the 10th best time overall.

Next up for Jordan was the High Jump where she twice missed at her opening height of 1.61m but was successful on her third attempt picking up another 747 points with the 17th best effort of the competition in the high jump.

3 attempts at 1.64m proved unsuccessful and after 2 events Jordan was sitting in 25th with 1715 points.

The 3rd event, the Shotput, Jordan's third and final throw 0f 10.24m was her best of the competition scoring 545 points.

The 4th event to close out the first day of the competition was the 200m and Jordan ran a personal best 25.93 scoring 803 points with the 23rd best time in the event.

At the end of the first day with 4 events complete, Jordan has 3063 points and is currently in 28th place.  Day 4 will see the conclusion of the event with the Long Jump, Javelin and 800m.

The Boys 400m Final is a prelude to true future stars in the Sport.  American's Jamal Walton ran a PB 45.99 to finish 4th just off the podium in the competition for the Cayman Islands.

Jordan post race commented, "I felt great, could've pushed more to do 45:8 or lower.  My goal was to be in the 45s.  I didn't feel no pain during the race cause I do have a Hamstring problem from last year at World Juniors in Oregon. I ran my BEST out of Lane 8 and I'm proud, if I was in like other lanes I would've ran a faster time. So, now I'm chasing after Arman Hall's 400m record in Florida. I didn't practice for 2 weeks because that's when I had stop.  Running track then I thought to my self I have a gift to do a 45 this year so yesterday that's what I did so if I had been working for those two weeks I would have been great."

The event was won by Jamaica's Christopher Taylor in 45.23, followed by American's Josephus Lyles in 45.46 and Keshun Reed going 45.96.

The Girls 400m featured Southridge's Symone Mason who finished 8th in 53.55 to show just how fast the entire field competed in the final.  The race was won by Bahrain's Salwa Eid Naser in a blistering 51.50, topping the world Youth list for 2015.

2nd was Lynna Irby who we first met earlier this year at the Golden South Classic where she ran the 100m and just shy of 2 months later Lynna ran the fastest time in United States this year going 51.79 for a PB.  The upside potential for Lynna is really bright as she is truly a rising star.

Day 2 of the World Youth Championships from Cali, Colombia continues to see impressive performances from our #FloridaFast athletes: Symone Mason (USA) 400m, Khalifa St. Fort (TTO) 100m and Jamal Walton (CAY) 400m.

Symone Mason - During Day 1 of the Championships, Symone qualified easily in her heat of the 400m during the morning session of the championships in 54.41.

Day 2 of the competition saw Symone race her 400m semi-final in 53.48 finishing 3rd in her heat.  With only the top 2 finishers receiving automatic bids to the Final, Symone had to wait through the ensuing 2 rounds to see if she was one the 2 fastest qualifiers from the 3 heats to make it into the Final.

As it turned out, her 53.48 was good enough to race one more time during the open Championships as she was the fifth fastest overall qualifer and will join teammate Lyna Irby in the Girls 400m Final scheduled for Day 3 of the competition, Friday at 9:10PM EST.

Jamal Walton - During Day 1, Jamal easily qualified as well winning his heat 3 of the 400m in 47.35.

On Day 2, Jamal ran the semi's and finished 2nd in his heat, going 46.97.

The important point being Jamal is onto the stacked Boys 400m Final which shapes up like this:

Khalifa St. Fort - The big news of the day was the execution of Khalifa's opening round 100m where she ran a new PB winning her heat in 11.39

She talked to Coach Boldon after the race and we've embedded the Tweet and the Periscope clip we posted on our DyeStatFL account below.  Needless to say, she looked great during her opening round.

The 100m rounds are tough.  They are all run in the same day.  Khalifa won her semi-final round in another PB and lowered the Championship Record going 11.24.

The Championship Record didn't last long though as Candace Hill then rocketed to an 11.16 CR setting up a highly anticipated final that will see Khalifa and Candace next to each other in the middle of the Track for the Final later this evening.

Also in the final will be USA's Jayla Kirland who won heat 3 in 11.54.

The Girls 100m Final proved to be very fast indeed.  Candace Hill lowered the Championship Record getting the win in 11.08 followed by a 3rd consecutive PR in the same day for Khalifa as she went US#2, FL#1 11.19 in the Final.  3rd place was USA's Jayla Kirkland in 11.41
